IRIS Europe 3 crosses finish line

On 26 November, 120 participants, among which project partners, stakeholders, EU representatives, Heads of waterway authorities and representatives of several Ministries of Transport and other experts directly or less directly involved in the project joined the IRIS Europe 3 core team in Vienna to celebrate the last and most important milestone in this ambitious project: the final event. This event was an opportunity to share the results and outputs of this important flagship project. On the agenda were live demonstrations, new services, Apps, developments and enhancements of RIS services. 6 work packages and 27 sub-activities are not easily packed in one day; the IRIS Europe 3 team opted for highlights and presented almost 3 years of achievements in a very lively and audience-friendly format.

IRIS Europe 3 is an internationally coordinated project of national priorities with one main goal which is to bring harmonized RIS implementation in Europe one or more steps forward. Launched in January 2012 and funded by the TEN-T Programme of the European Union.

The IRIS Europe 3 final event was organized by viadonau - lead partner and Austrian Waterway Maintenance Company - and moderated by Hélène Gilkarov, IRIS Europe 3 Dissemination Officer.

For Mario Kaufmann, IRIS Europe 3 project manager, “IRIS Europe 3 has been a most comprehensive and challenging project strongly focusing on the enhancement of the RIS service portfolio in order to increase safety, efficiency and environmental friendliness of inland navigation; this project has taken us one big step forward”.
